Two of our own Origins members, Mary & Lyndon Wade, are working with Urban Mosaic to bring long-term, community led transformation to the urban poor in Mexico. We have an exciting opportunity to help them transform recently donated land into three “Safe Hubs” that will impact over 3,000 youth, kids and adults. And right now, our contributions will be matched up to $50,000!
On the eastern side of Mexico City there are hundreds of thousands of people living in urban poor areas with few opportunities for families to access health care services, educational opportunities for youth and children that help them pursue their aspirations in life, and shared public spaces for citizens to come together and dream about improved community conditions. This fragile environment contributes to urban violence, delinquency, poor health and generational poverty that undercuts the God-given potential of many of these city dwellers.
The goal is to formally create three fenced “Safe Hubs” in the donated areas for children and youth to play, and to learn life, leadership, academic and vocational skills to help them develop a vision for their future, grow into healthy adults, and become agents of change in their communities. “Safe” does not only refer to the physical safety, but it refers to emotional and psychological safety as well. Trauma-informed interventions will use sports and the arts to teach children and families skills to cope better with conflict and trauma in their own lives and communities.
Please watch this short video and consider joing us in giving as we partner with Mary and Lyndon in this exciting opportunity.
