Recently I took my son Aiden down to Sox Place in Denver to visit Doyle Robinson and help expand Aiden's understanding of the needs of people in circumstances different than his own. If you were to ask Aiden what it means to love God, he would simply tell you that it means to love people. At his age (6 years old), the answers to needs are very singular - if someone has one, we should meet it.

Sox Place is a ministry in downtown Denver that exists to bring the Father’s heart to the fatherless, through physical, spiritual, emotional, and social provision to urban youth subcultures. They provide a hot meal and a safe place Tuesday through Saturday. There are activities such as movies, video games, and pool to entertain the youth during their time at Sox Place. Staff and volunteers spend their time building friendships in order to provide healthy and constructive relationships.

When I took Aiden to Sox Place we had an opportunity to help organize some donations and help out around the facility. After that, we just took some time to hang out and take in the experience. Aiden spent most of his time in the video game area watching as some folks relaxed and played. After a while, Aiden asked about the games they had and wanted to talk with Doyle about a concern he had. He was concerned that if the youth only had a certain amount of games that they might get bored and it wouldn't be fun anymore.

I think both Doyle and I chuckled at the fact that from Aiden's perspective there was a glaring need - fresh video games. While the youth that Sox Place serves undoubtedly have countless needs beyond video games, I couldn't be more proud of my son.

He recently told me he likes being a part of a church like Origins where we just love people. We're going to begin giving our tithe and offering each month to purchase new game consoles and video games for Sox Place. If you would, please consider joining us in this campaign as our son continues to learn what it means to be part of a church like Origins - where we are interested, exploring and engaged in the needs of the people God has placed right in front of us.

We would also encourage you to look into Sox Place and consider being a donor to their ministry.
